Matt’s Family Event My last family event was at the beach in Panama City. My family, cousin, aunt, and uncle were all there. We arrived on a warm Monday morning in the summer. When we stepped out of the car I smelled the salty air that’s only found near a big body of salt water. After we finished getting unpacked, we all threw on our bathing suits and headed out to the pool. Once we got there, I noticed that the smell of chlorine filled the air and soon, my nose. The aroma washed over me as if a wave crashed on top of me. We swam for an hour or two in the pool playing games or racing. Then we all went back to the condo wrapped in towels for a delicious lunch of turkey and cheese sandwiches with Baked Lay's chips. After we all finished our meal, we headed down to the beach. As we neared the beach we could all hear the crashing of waves. The sand was in between my toes as the sun’s warm rays beat down on us from above. First, we all went to make a big sandcastle. It started as just fun, but then some other kids sat down a few yards away and started to make their own sandcastle. It became a competition. We all worked together to make the perfect masterpiece of a sandcastle for about an hour until we were finally finished. When I looked up, I saw that the other children’s sandcastle was just as good as ours. We declared it a tie. After that, we went into the ocean. My cousin and I went bodysurfing, while the girls snorkeled. My cousin, Will, and I harmoniously dove with a wave. We stood up in the ankle-deep water after the wave lowered us back to the ground. I turned around just in time for a big wave to buffet me in the face. The saltwater tasted horrible in my mouth, so I stood up and coughed and gagged. After that, we got crackers and threw them to seagulls. When we threw the crackers, the seagulls were on them like a hound on a pork chop. The birds swarmed around us and scared the girls. There were very many of them squawking their heads off for attention so that we would throw them food. Once everyone was finished having fun at the beach, we got up to go. We were walking back to the walkway to the condo when I fell. I instinctively looked back to see what tripped me, and I saw a hole that a child probably dug. The fall put sand in my mouth that tasted gritty and abnormal. When we got to the area with hoses and showers for washing off after going to the beach, I got my cousin to spray me down to get all of the sand off of me. We got inside and took showers so we could go out to eat that night. We went to one of my favorite restaurants in Panama City, Captain Anderson’s. Mostly, we all got fish to eat. We chose different types of fish to eat that night from catfish to amberjack. It all tasted wonderful. The next morning we got up early to go fishing. We ate a quick bite of donuts from a nearby shop before we left. When we got to the dock, I could hear boat motors cranking, smell fish from the boats, and see water like glass as far as I could see. We got in our boat and headed to my favorite spot to fish. When we dropped the lines, they almost immediately started to dip. There was almost always a person reeling in a fish. We had to go home early that day because we caught the legal limit so fast. We went home, ate a quick lunch, packed up, and loaded the car to go home. That family get together was a fun and unforgettable experience!
